Windshield and rain
#21
I rode a Hertiage Classic before I turned to my Ultra Limited 2015. I applied a 'high' windshield on my Heritage, allowing me to look over and it came to my lower nose. I was wet like hell in every rainshower.
My UL has 13" and I am never wet again on my face. I used an 'upside curved' one before but this was working contra. The 13" (I am 1.92 mtrs) is perfect. Advice: keep your ventilation on your 'bra' as long open as you can. Diverts the wind to prevent turbulence around your helmet including wet particles in your neck

If I get stuck in the rain, I deal with it. But if its forecast I take the truck to work. Cold, wet and damp just makes my knees, hips and shoulders and hands hurt too much anymore. I always carry my raingear for those unexpected S.E. Texas downpours....ya'll know, the ones where its projected sunny all day and by 2pm the freeways are flooded.

Will I get wet if I ride in the rain? Will the wind buffet my helmet? Jeez, come on people, these are motorcycles we're riding.
Yes, if you ride in the rain you will get wet. And yes, when the wind starts whipping past your melon at 75 MPH your helmet will move around.
And next will be the "Zombie thread" posts...

I find a half helmet like the HJC IS - Cruiser
or the Scorpion EXO-C110 Helmet works very well in the rain.
Prior to that I used to use a pair of amber shooting glasses. They worked well but it was very hard to clear the backside of the glasses of rain drops. The problem with those was that water easily got behind them and they were so close to the eyes that it was hard to see.
The helmets above work very well. It takes allot longer for water to get behind the shield and because the shield is further away from my eyes it isn't as distracting looking thru the shield and the rain drops. When it's not raining the shield is out of sight.

The RGU gives better weather protection than the EGU from the rain. You wouldn't think so because the fairing is further away on the RGU but it does. If you ride in the rain far enough you will get wet. There are actually gloves that have a built in wiper on the thumb. I dont remember the brand but great idea as I have wiped my faceshield with my glove before in the pouring down rain. Faceshield fogging is the dangerous part. I have actually had to crack it open to keep it from fogging.
Like I said if you ride far enough in the rain even with rain gear you will get wet eventually. When I first rode my RGU home from the dealer (it was a 340 mile trip) I actually got caught in the rain for about 5 miles and it was pretty cool watching the rain go around me at highway speed and I was going wow I am not even getting wet! I knew then the weather protection was better than the EGU I had just traded in and I got caught in the rain a few times on that bike.

If you're wearing a half helmet w/glasses in a heavy downpour, you'll probably be riding blind - been there, done that, and it's scary. A well vented FF helmet is the best thing to wear in those conditions. If you don't have one, goggles or a face shield might work. One of the reasons that I ride a Bagger is so I can carry a rain suit and riding gear.

I have a visor that snaps to my 1/2 helmet and works great. Riding blind because you are stylish and just have a 1/2 helmet and sunglasses when the deluge hits is very dangerous. Actually, after getting caught in that deluge not only did I get the snap on visor, but I bought a rainsuit, and gee, it's nice to be able to see and be dry when it's raining cats and dogs out.
