Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Ride advice needed
#31
I did the Skyline Drive a few years ago. Absolutely loved it. Started in Front Royal and rode the entire thing in 6 hours. Made allot of stops and explored while I was there. There are a few places to stop and hike down to a waterfall. I believe it cost $10 to ride it and there are gas stops along the way with a restaurant or two as well. Lots of scenic views and you may see some wildlife as well. Keep in mind it can be crowded at times.

Not sure where in NYS you are but if you travel much you have to be sick of 81!!! On that Ashville trip, with my son, we stayed on 88 in NY to Pennsylvania 220 south- nice road and it either meets up with 81 somewhere near harrisburgh or you can Googlemap your way east to 81 somewhere...nice alternative. Mostly a 2 lane road through some nice little burgs. I think we had lunch day one in Tagahanick (sp) cool local restaraunt with a model train running around the wall!

Some allow you to export to file formats supported by offline GPS apps like CoPilot, Sygic, and Navigon. Also some export to Harley Davidson .gpx. Saw one or two that can connect to Garmin and other devices directly via USB.
Another one...

Getting in for info as well. I'm doing this ride this summer coming from Iowa. Anyone have any input on if it's better to start north and head south or vice-versa? I'm looking at either starting with cherohala and deals gap, and going north, or starting near romney,WV and heading south. It's about the same distance to both from where I'm at.
Also, I'm brining along a sleeping bag, tent, and air matress. Is there decent camping on BRP and everything? Mainly I'm doing this not for the thrill but to save some money on hotels for a 10 day road trip.
