At speeds over 50 mph, I can "feel" my pipes, but I can't really hear them. I wear plugs all the time. I started wearing them in the military, and I have perfect hearing. I even went to afew concerts without p;lugs, and luckily, I never suffered any damage. AC/DC is very loud.

When I had my sporty with the Screaming Eagle II pipes, the pipe noise coupled with the wind was really bothersome. Had to wear ear plugs to be comfortable. Now that's I've got the Deluxe that is still wearing just the stock pipes, it doesn't bother me nearly as much so I don't use the ear plugs for short hops, even in a half helmet. So for me, yes, having loud pipes definitely made a noticeable difference and wearing the ear plugs made me much more comfortable riding.

I have tinnitus so bad that I should wear hearing aids. I guess I will get them soon. I use indoor/outdoor plugs and they really are helpful. Just put the yellow end in your ear and enjoy the ride.

Yeah my ears ring all the time too. I do wear ear plugs for any ride over about 30 min.

Yep me too. They are great for the long trips or highway riding. Plus when you finally take them out it's like you can hear a mosquito sneeze.

I had a cager at a gas station tell me (as I was taking out my ear plugs) "If you guys didn't have such loud pipes you wouldn't need to wear ear plugs".

I suggested he stick his head out the window for the next 150 miles and we could have this conversation at the next fuel stop.

Didn't see him at the BP down the road.

Isn't that amazing, what causes that? Can't believe how good I can hear after a road trip with ear plugs in,makes you realize how much of your hearing is already gone.

Good Luck

I had Short Shots on my Sportster and once you are over 40 mph wind noise is louder than the pipes. I started wearing ear plugs all the time when riding. A wierd thing I noticed though is that in cold weather I wear a fullface helmet and I did not need ear plugs for wind noise with it. When I put the Shortshots on the noise from them was enough to give you headache, with the full face helmet with out ear plugs.
