Default XIED vs Tuner

I run a 2015 FLHTKL with the HO 103 motor to which i initially added V&H Monster Ovals and am about to add a Performance Machine Air cleaner. Do I really need a tuner if I do not want to do any other mods, or will the XIEDS run cooler and richer throughout the rpm range ?

thanks johnv

The XIEDS or newer VIEDS ($$) are a piggyback fuel modifier that plugs into the
O2 sensors then into harness to modify the pulse width of the injector (inj. spray duration). They bump up the mixture slightly. A tuner will do a lot more for the internal operation of the engine and is adjustable ($$$$). There is another thread addressing basically the same thing but, the discussion also the fact that due the O2 sensing and the ECM, the ECM will self adjust to the EPA standard ratio, which is on the lean (hot) side. Hope I didn't muddy the water too bad. I'm running a V&H FP3 tuner with their map, bike runs great.

I have used VIEDs or XIEDS on a couple of bikes. I know I'm never going to do more performance mods so the IEDs work great for me. They are on my 15 Ultra now.

I’ve had Vieds and now run an FP3. Huge difference, wouldn’t go back.

I run XiEDs and think they're great. Bike runs cooler, and just as well as my other bikes did with the high dollar tuners I've used in the past. For a simple Stage 1 they're perfect.

I ran VIED's on my 2013 Road King with intake and mufflers.
They worked great, till one day... they didn't. I'm now running a Fuel Moto tuner. It works better, makes more power, and was like a measly $60 more than the VIED's. Money well spent. VIED's work, tuners work better. Just sayin'.

If it were my money, I would go with the Power Vision tuner from Fuel Moto. Can't beat their customer service and support. If it were available back when I bought my tuner, I would have went with it instead of the SEPST.

Avoid cheaping out by going xied/vied. Many of us been down that path only to not be able to solve pinging after a simple stage 1. Fp3 for stage 1, Power Vision if stage 2 or more planned.
