If they come out like crap I'll just order a set of chrome lowers off ebay for $189
Dang. I hope I didn't give the impression that polished lowers look bad. Quite the opposite. I think they look fantastic. I just was saying I thought chrome was nicer.... "To me, on my bikes". Post up some pics when your done.
I think polished fork lowers look better than chrome. They have a rich look that complements the fork covers (beer cans). The lowers on my Fat Boy are in like new condition. I plan to polish them when they're pitted.
I admire those with the energy and ambition to polish badly corroded fork legs. I have neither.
I recently picked up a Dyna that had really furry lower legs. A little sanding and some black epoxy paint and I'm on my way towards that modern "blacked out" look.

agreed, i refused to do it again, went chrome on the dyna lowers and black on the sportster lowers.
The right tool for the job makes a big difference in how much effort it takes. Drills simply do not not spin fast enough. I use a disk sander and modify it to fit a buffing wheel, works slick.
