I know there are many here that have polished this stuff, and they come out looking good...for a while. Then you need to do it over and over again, or they look bad quickly. If you want them to look like that, It seems to me that chrome is the easiest way to go. Once its done, its a matter of wash and dry, and its done. Save yourselves a long time job and just get the parts chromed, Just my 2 cents

Just wondering if anyone has tried using something like this to do the job and what your results were.

thanks

tried that.. it was a pain. i ended up using multiple grades of sand paper to wet sand then flitz and mothers aluminium polish. had to keep doing it every few weeks... total pain in the a**.

I am too lazy. Have had them in chrome on my Road King since day one, a necessity for me. Most of my bikes legs have been chromed. Have tolerated the stock on my new bike long enough and very shortly will be ordering probably black from ***** Shiny. Their website only shows chrome for the new bikes but after contacting them they confirmed black for the same $189.

Yes you can using the white compound bar ,but first remove the front fender then cover the brake caliper and brake hose with plastic.
Now strip the clear coat off with so paint remover and 000 steel wool . Then clean up any rough edges with a fine file .
The buffing to a chrome finish will take 3 to 4 hour for each side . But is well worth it . Don’t re clear them , they will need minimal care once they are super shiny.
Great winter project go for it .

Thanks, ya they came out looking great. All I do t0 keep them looking good is hand polish with some good polishing cream, Mothers or Autosol, buff, wipe, buff again done. I'm on the second year since I done them, put about 40k miles since, they're looking like new. I'm convinced the difference is using an actual buffing wheel.

I keep seeing responses about polishing.
And yes, polished lowers do look good. I did a whole thread about how great MY lowers looked after polishing. But no matter how you slice the pizza, my current chrome lowers are MUCH nicer than any polished lowers ever looked on any of my bikes. And they NEVER need "touch up's". But that's just me.

I would look up a local metal polisher in your area and take the fork lowers to them to do professionally.

I had the lowers on my Shovel polished to a mirror shine and the total cost was $30. I couldn't even have bought the polish for that!

Thanks everyone for the information. I think I am going to give polishing them a try in the next few weeks. Was going to do it this weekend but it is going to be in the 50's and I would rather ride the bike then work on it...

If they come out like crap I'll just order a set of chrome lowers off ebay for $189
