It always cracks me up when people start talking about how Polaris Industries is killing Harley. They'll start quoting percentages like they've more than doubled their percentages that they sold this year. And Harley down 2% or whatever. It's apples to oranges. Indian Motorcycles doesn't post their numbers of bikes they sell with good reason. But if you're interested to know roughly their motorcycles compared to Harley keep in mind the recent recall for Indian motorcycles. You know the one that included all big twin equivalent 2018 bikes sold this year. Under 5,000...... I can't be bothered to do the math but I'm sure it's around 130,000 for Harley in the same length of time. Now I'm not saying Indian hasn't had good growth but most of that came from the already former Harley disgruntled Victory owners.
If they rebadge that Victory Octane as an Indian, I'm trading my Fatboy.
I am still laughing about the time when several Harley Dealership's advised me to replace my 205MPH Hayabusa for a V-Rod.
Like I said on another post. it is simple, if Harley Davidson wants to turn things around they need to send a limo to my house and have some Budweiser girls escort me to the car. After the girls escort me in to the Harley Davidson headquarters (of coarse I will be dressed like Rick Flair) we will get started saving the sinking ship.
There are a large number of great ideas on this thread. We will start by sending some of the clowns that Harley Davidson has had recently making the decisions back to their old jobs at McDonalds.

The used market is booming. 4-5 year old bikes with anywhere from 1k-10k miles can be found regularly. Why would anyone buy new? That being said Harley will never go under. My uncle bought a brand new Indian Chief Classic last year and the first thing he said to me was that Indian is taking Harley down. I laughed at him. Harley makes enough money selling $50 t shirts to fund a war.
Was just at the boutique this past weekend. $50 T-Shirts, $85 plain black pull over hoodie with an HD logo on the front, $115 zip up hoodie...

I love the statement that companies need to do certain things to satisfy the stockholders. Don't you buy stock in a company because you think they are or will do well and you payback will be when the stock goes up? I think people who buy stock for the dividends are short sighted. You are investing in a company not looking for an immediate payback. I am probably all wet as usual.
Also a say a 5% increase in sales at Indian probably amounts to a handful of bikes. The couple of times I have been in the local Indian dealership there was no one looking at then, those that were there were looking at quads.

How many bikes does Polaris sell a year, 20-30,000? Anybody know?
Does it matter? You are comparing HD to Polaris in motorcycles only? Polaris also sells slingshots, ATVs , offroad vehicles, snowmobiles & electric vehicles (GEM).
If HD loses motorcycle sales what can they turn to? If Polaris loses motorcycle sales they are diversified as are Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki & BMW.
