Why is Harley riding on a decline?

Plus theres no other bike IMHO that can hold a candle to them, looks wise.

We antiques get it, the new upcoming riders, and riders who have little experience with HD are not going to buy that 'live by it', marketing. We older riders have the connection; we were there for Tom Fugle, Easy Rider, David Mann images, and Indian Larry. The new generation and motorcyclists who've spent their time on other brands just don't connect to it at all, and as we age and leave motorcycling HD will lose market share...

I really am not sure why Harleys are not more popular with the younger crowd. Part of it may be that the younger crowd just doesn't realize or appreciate the bond that Harley riders have with each other and with the dealerships and Indies. The Harley bikes are pretty nice these days, and while not the same as crotch rockets, in many ways a Harley is nicer. Certainly Harleys are built tougher than the crotch rockets.
It may be that HD will have to focus a bit more on technological upgrades such as electronically adjustable suspension and other things of this nature. Younger folks like and expect such things. I don't mean me, but just sayin'...
The 2018 HDs with the new M8 engines are making real strides towards appealing to newer riders. I hope it works.

I’d never buy my first bike new as I’d know I’d outgrow it fast. For first bikes I went used and paid 3grand for an 07 883 with 7k on it a year later I grew out of it moved on to a dyna (used) All my bikes I’ve bought were used and in great condition. That’s all I care to pay for these machines I’ll let someone else feed their ego and pucker up for new model prices.

I agree, it is total nonsense. Unfortunately, it's true though. A lot of the insurance game is nonsense, I'll give you that.
My point was that insurance rates are also based on probability of crashes. Young people stuffing their high HP Mustangs? You bet.
Young people stuffing their high HP Corvettes? Not so much, because they don't have Corvettes, they have Mustangs.
OP~ sorry for the derailment.
Back to our regularly scheduled programming.
EDIT~ I've had many "crotch rockets" over the years. Even before they had crotch rockets, I had what superceded them. I never thought of them being "more fragile the HarleyD." I doubt my HD's would stand up to the punishment of racing & trackdays that I put my "crotch rockets" through. Nevermind the power levels being 1/3rd of the "crotch rockets."
And, based on the sloppy workmanship, lousy quality of the parts used on today's HDs, I can say the gap has only widened.
