Default Windex ok on Polycarbonite?

I just bought a used Harley quick release windshield off of ebay and looking online I see Harley "only recommends" a special HD chemical to clean them with. Are they selling little more than Windex or does polycarbonite need a special type of cleaner?

Thanks

Don't bother, almost nothing works as good as plain old water (distilled is even better) with a CLEAN microfiber cloth. If you want to gild the lily, you can use a drop of very dilute Dawn, followed by plain water, followed by simple wiping dry to avoid streaking or drop marks.

Did I mention use a CLEAN microfiber cloth?

No. There is a film on the shield that will start coming off if you use anything with ammonia. Use water or the special cleaner.

Do not use Windex with ammonia. There are special cleaners like Novus or Plexus. They’re overpriced. I just use diluted (10%) vinegar water soak, then wipe off with microfiber. Then use Original Bike Spirits Spray Cleaner and Polish

Sprayway glass cleaner from Costco.
You can use it on the windshield, paint or chrome.

Here is a compatibility chart with polycarbonate. Ammonia severe effect. Vinegar excellent.
