This is my bike and trailer on the way home from N.Dak to Wa. in 2005...

Not very long after that pic, as the sun started going down, I had to swerve hard to miss one of those stupid road rats.
I was super lucky to have missed it with the bike but I clipped it with my trailer. Put my bike into a nasty HS wobble.
Just as I got the bike back under control, I looked in the rear view and saw that little bastard spinning like a break-dancer in the middle of the road.
I stopped at the first gas station I came too, to check my pants and my bike. I snapped these pics of the trailer fender...

Sorry for the meme side-track but thought it was worth sharing on the topic of deer vs. bike.

Death on 4 hooves!
until one jumps into your path, you don’t realize how dangerous these beasts are; but the number of carcasses on the road should be a clue.

Recently, in her car, my wife was traveling, in the center of 3 lanes in her direction, on a 6 lane highway with a center concrete barrier. A minivan was passing her on the left. Boom.. a Deer hit her grill, my wife never saw what happened ‘til it hit her; my son did. The deer ran across the 3 lanes of oncoming traffic. Then, in a single bound, it jumped over the median and the minivan, it never even landed when it collided with the grill of my wife’s car that was traveling at 60mph. Bloody!

But never forget, about 25% of the time, when you see one, there are more. Many people hit the second or third while watching the first run away! When you see one, Slow Down!! There maybe more that you haven’t spotted.

Because they are THICK where I live, we literally see deer almost every day. No lie.

So we have a saying when we see 1 deer crossing the road.....

"Wheres your Buddy" ?

Most of the time we see more.

The exception is that we,'ve arrived late and we are seeing the last deer in the pack.

There are days I could hunt with a baseball bat and fill my freezer.

We live in BFE Atlantic Canada where the deer and the Moose play.

I have come close on hitting deer, raccoon, squirrel, dog, cat, groundhog, black bear and almost got hit by a buffalo, and moose. Only thing I ever ran over with two wheels was a pigeon. It's like the Seinfeld episode you just assume that they will fly away..... nope! And i also hit a crow. I was riding my bIke to visit a buddy who was 8 hrs away. Farm country in NY and I'm riding through a torrential rain storm. Even with the rain I was moving along. Something hits my shoulder and I just continue riding. I was on a sportbike and leaning forward. It stops raining and gets nice out but humid. I decide to get gas and this guy says there is something on your back. The crow exploded on my shoulder and the guts rolled down my back and dried. Had to scrape some of it off with a knife!!

About the only time that I don't see deer around here is when I'm hunting them.

I have whacked a couple birds over the years, but the weirdest thing I almost hit was a snake. I didn't almost run over it...it almost hit me square in the face. I was cruising about 60 MPH on a GON2L (Good Old Numbered 2-Lane highway) when I saw a small hawk rise up out of the ditch to my left. It was struggling to gain altitude because it was carrying a fairly large snake. (It all happened in a matter of seconds, so I didn't get a chance to accurately gauge it's length.) The stupid hawk flew right in front of me, with the snake doing those creepy squirming motions they make when they get picked up by a hawk. <insert full body shudder here> In that split second I decided to duck, and I crouched down as far as I could go while still looking down the road. The aerobatic duo was high enough that they passed overhead. It seemed like it was just inches, but in reality it was probably several feet.
