Default 2017 riding wrap up.

My original goal of 49 States was met. Since then I take and carve up each state. I consider the carving up of each state's local roads the icing on the 49 states cake.

This years riding included ride abouts in Missouri,Montana,Nebraska, Texas, South Dakota and Wyoming.

I have two states west of the Mississippi to do yet. They are Utah and Kansas. I have checked and marked up a map for each one. There is one issue though and that is at my age I have been noticing a decline since last July. When I stopped at Wall South Dakota for the evening on my return from riding local mountain roads in Montana my legs came close to not functioning. It seems that years of riding have pinched the nerves in my back to the point that I almost could not feel my legs and make them work.

I eased up since then on riding and there is some improvement. I finished this year with just over 38K where I have been doing 42.5K for the last two years.

At the beginning of each season I ride to Laughlin for River Run at the end of April. Last year the Street Rod's fuel pump went out in Missouri so I will try it again this next April. The ride is six days of 700 miles per day. I think I will stretch it to 4 days each way. That should still be a good test of what I can do.

I know that I can't ride forever but I will try to keep going as long as I can.

Sorry to hear about the pinched nerve. I hope you reach your goal. Isn't there anything doctors can do for it? At any rate, what you have accomplished is awesome!

I have driven through the roads of the Flint Hills in KS and it would be very enjoyable for sure, hoping to do it soon myself. Otherwise, KS is pretty much straight and flat lol.

My one goal is just one overnight ride. But like last year and the year before, it didn't happen. Oh well, there's this year to try again.

Getting old is a bitch I know I'm old. Slow down, smell the roses, stop more for a beer. Its not about how far you go, its about just going. I saw the USA by truck at 70 mph without stopping so when I ride I stop every few hours and check things out and stretch my legs.

Congratulations on your miles! I sincerely hope the pinched nerve issue doesn't get worse, and hopefully will improve.

Speaking on behalf of the entire state of Utah, you are welcome anytime. If you have issues while you are here (health/mechanical) you have a friendly contact.

Wow what accomplishments... what memories. Prayers for health and mobility to keep it going.
I’ve been blessed to have my father still riding (on a trike) so we could complete some trips these past two summers. He will turn 80 this winter and we know there aren’t too many more trips ahead (especially the week long rides). He really wants to see me enjoy the Tail of the Dragon and Maggie Valley, so that will probably be our destination this summer.
Best wishes to all for their ‘18 plans...

Awesome! Sounds like some major riding has been in your past, kudo's to you as I wish I had the time but we still manage to put on around 10-13,000 per yr which according to some is extreme, but not according to what you've done! Hope you can find resolve for your nerve issues & continue to do what you apparently love!! Retirement will come for me in a few more yrs & hopefully the health will hold out so the wife & I can do more travels on the scoot.
