Default "So, what's it like riding in the wind?"

So today we are getting some pretty good wind here, at least for So. Cal. (maybe 20-30 mph gusts), and as I was leaving work today there are always a couple of guys sitting outside my building having a cigarette break. As I was taking off/putting away my bike cover and loading up my saddlebags one of the guys asks the question (in the thread title). I scratched my head for a minute giving him a puzzled look and said "I'm always riding in the wind. That's the whole point!" He gave me an even more puzzled look. He clearly didn't get it. I then told him..."Well if I'm doing 70 and I have a 30 MPH head wind then it's like riding into a 100 MPH wind." Then he smiled and I think he got it.

I just thought is was kinda' funny how folks that don't or have never ridden don't really have a clue.

Try rollin in wind - where Ya have to lean 30 - to nearly 45 degrees just to maintain a relatively straight line

Or on a 4 lane, where you're in the 1 position - of the left (inside) lane..., next blink on an eye, you're in position 2 or 3 - of the right (outside) lane

It pure pucker factor - and not a damn bit fun

Yea, never fun to ride in a cross wind. You definetly have to keep your wits about you. Going cross traffic when the wind stops and your not paying attention isn't fun.

I'd want to tell them to rent a bike and find out for themselves. BUT to rent one without a windshield. If it has one, they might as well drive a convertible car. It has to feel like the same thing.

We have a local stretch of I-5 that's infamous for it's cross winds, flip's semi's a couple times a year. You check the wind advisory before riding it.

I've blown across 3 lanes before, takes vise grips to get your shorts back from your *******.

Describes my last ride along the coast around Big Sur.

Man that was like yesterday... and a lifetime ago... Wow. Now I feel depressed.

You just reminded me of my run from San Fran up to Eureka. A steady wind like that in mid-April. 35-degrees when I hit Eureka at 9 pm. A lot of leaning left up the coastal highway. A lifetime ago for me

When I think about riding in the wind the two words that always comes to mind is,
"It Sucks."

I think I prefer rain to wind. I do not like riding in 25mph or above
