New Sportster Being Released ?

Well... I'm going HAM for XMAS. Not sure that's the HAM you're referring to.
Taking things to the extreme...
Do whatever you want... Free country and all that. Hot Rod for Hot Rodding sake. If that's your thing... No problem...
In my mind though... There is a rational limit.
Wonder what the cost would be to get a Harley to the point of not getting it's *** handed to it by some kid on a run of the mill, used, stock GSXR that can be had for a song?... If even possible...

Cost not to be shamed by a cbr500? Ask Madnss or Hammer Dan. I'm sure they've got a formula. Outside of the roadster and xr, i dont think youd wanna go past 120-130 for long. Stock sporty is a death trap up in that range. Suer unstable

I just don't understand why someone interested only in being able to 'smoke' every bike they run into would consider a Harley anyway. IMO, if the only driving force in some is to ride REAL fast in a straight line like it's some kind of d**k measuring contest, God are you missing out. But hey, that's just me I guess...

I'm kinda with you on this one. Anyone dumb enough to buy a Harley Davidson KNOWING full well what they are, and then complain about a perceived (in their opinion) lack of power, well then I guess the problem lies with them not the bike they bought. If you wanted a sportbike, you should have bought a sportbike. Really a pretty simple concept.

so again, anyone wanting more power out of a sportster or harley is wrong or "missing out"? WTF!? are any of you aware of why sportsters exist to begin with or hd's own racing pedigree? i'm pretty sure you are and are just so caught up in your own silliness that you are just saying rubbish to try to be cool or whatever is going on here. you are basically insulting the whole building community (or anyone that doesn't have a walker with tennis ***** on the bottom).
if you like basic boring bikes, vanilla ice cream, missionary positions, and other mundane stuff.. that's fine...but, trying to say anyone that wants "more" is out of line.... you wouldn't have a sportster if HD had that same "get a hair cut hippy"/"get off my lawn" attitude back in the 1950's when it came to the competition. that same drive led to the 883cc going to 1000cc, then to 1100cc, and now 1200cc (officially)
talking a bunch of ridiculous trash is easy if you ignore history and the continuous improvement machine that brought your bikes (in their current states) into being. the EFI bikes you are riding now are night and days from the 2003 and older bikes before them... and, yes, faster stock thanks to buell (racing) based heads and xl200s w cams. that same continuous improvement machine will keep driving ahead, without your permission or blessing.
change management:
read "Who moved my cheese" (ISBN: 0-399-14446-3) .... right now... i see a lot of Hems and Haws, lol

Hence, the marketing to minorities, who generally haven't been HD riders in large scale, women, and the younger millennials. who, ironically, want what WE wanted back in the day. Something light, fast, cool, and cheap. Nothing there describes anything on the dealer floor, except the Street series, which again, just doesn't compete on either price, or performance very well, with metrics. Close, but still gotta really WANT a HD to justify it over a Honda, Triumph, Indian or Suzuki etc.

I started riding in the '60's when the Japanese UJM era was just about to explode. I was a young, performance minded kid. Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha all offered relatively cheap UJM's that performed better than a Harley-Davidson. Guess what? Young guys my age STILL couldn't wait to buy that Harley Davidson! They rode those Japanese twins, inline fours, and two stroke rockets because they could afford them. BUT.....they still longed for the day when they could buy a Harley Davidson. Don't tell me that kids today don't feel the same as we did back then. Rationalize it all you want (other bikes offer better performance for less money, Harley's are antiquated, too expensive, etc.) I heard those same arguments back in the early '70's, too. People STILL wanted a Harley. Right now, Harley sales are down, but, I'll bet you if you want to check it out, that HD is STILL outsellling all the other mfg'ers by far. If Harley is in trouble, then the rest of the motorcycle industry in the U.S. is in the toilet. My son is looking for an on/off road motorcycle to run around his farm with, so I've been going with him to visit metric dealerships for the last few months. They're all GHOST TOWNS with cobwebs growing on the bikes on the showroom floor. Please don't feed the BS about people flocking to buy other bikes than Harley. Every time I go buy the local HD dealership, it's full of people, lots of things going on, and they are selling bikes at a good clip. Of course, I've only been riding bikes for almost 50 years, have owned 48 of them, raced flat track in the early '70's, been involved with motorcycling since I was 7 years old, so what do I know?

And TODAY, Harley is still outselling metric bikes in America. Did you not read my comment about the metric motorcycles languishing and gathering dust in showrooms all over the U.S? Nobody is buying them. Open your eyes, man. That IS "dealing with today".
