What I might question is the wisdom of it...

Agreed, the whole thing with H-D is they sell the bike uncomfortable, slow, or what ever adjective you want to use, you as an owner spend $$$ making it into your version of what it should have been . I suppose that's what makes them "Personal". People who aren't into keeping them long wont go this far with them

A guy here who has a Scout said his bike had 100 horsepower. The number I quoted for his machine is accurate. The new Bobber has more than his model, but it also does not have 100 RWHP. I cast no dispersion on his machine but did point out that it doesn't have 100 horsepower at the wheel, where it counts. Crankshaft horsepower is just theoretical dick wagging. If you can't pass a car on a two lane road with it, it doesn't exist.
I give Harley the same, no, make that MORE grief for not hitting the horsepower numbers it should. An M8 117" CI won't bust 95 rear wheel horsepower. Criminal. If you don't speak honestly about something and demand true performance in lieu of claimed performance, the claim is all you'll ever get. As far as "claims" go, I'll leave you with something I learned a long time ago; A thief will surely steal from you, a murderer will certainly kill you, but you never know where you stand with a liar.

It all depends on want you want from a bike. People that buy and ride Harleys really don't want a "fast" bike. There is no such thing as a "fast" Harley, not unless you pour mega $$$$$ into it. People with 6 kids don't buy a two seat Corvette, nor do people buy minivans to drag race. If someone buys a Harley because they want a hot rod motorcycle, they bought the wrong bike. Harleys are built to ride, enjoy, personalize, and they do that quite well. Been doing that for over 100 years. I've been on Harleys since the '60's, and I've never felt a lack of power on any of them. I've ridden them countless miles, and they've done all I've asked. I could care less if "your" bike is faster, makes unbelievable HP, can melt the rear tire at 1/2 throttle. I could care less if you can beat me to the next redlight by 10 seconds. Big deal. I realize not everyone feels that way, but I'd say a large number of HD owners do.
I grew up in a family that raced flat track motorcycles. If you want a fast Harley, the XR750 flat tracker fits that description......
140 mph straightaway speeds.

Vrod, xr, street rod750, lrs, ..... just off the top of my head.
look all this crab in a barrel ish needs to stop. If some of you are cool with slow gutless bikes. And just like putting around... Thats cool. Hd has you covered with a back catalog of ton of bikes. But please, stop with rationalizing of what is going on. That sort of thinking is what almost ruined Cadillac and many other old guard companies that tried to ignore the market and keep slinging the same crap.... then had the nation bail them out.
It's just plain unacceptable, unreasonable, and unrealistic to expect people to keep paying for antiquated models and specs while other companies are giving up the goods. Indian is gaining traction pretty fast. Even with those ugly bikes. Theres just a better value proposition with them... as it currently stands anyway. Hd is still riding on the strength of brand recognition and the "real bike" idiots.
honestly the new sporty activity is the same as the dyna/m8 softie threads... just a bunch of people fighting change.... and think that their opinionscan stop progress.... spoiler alert... progress wins.

Still I don't see the point of getting wound up about HP when buying any "cruiser", regardless of who makes it.
