The scout is way better looking than the dogs *** ugly fat bob and most of the rest of the softail lineup save maybe 2. As far as the 1901 thing goes they have as much of a right to say that as harley says 1903 (amf harley anyone?). Lets be real here. Theres nothing sporty about a sportster. They look nice, but to be honest id never own one after riding one. Not saying id buy a scout, just that i sure wouldnt buy a sporty.

Harley and horspower do not belong in the same sentence. About 30 years ago an old grey beard told me a dependable Harley isn't fast and a fast Harley isn't dependable.
In the 80's I went from a Kawasaki KZ 1000 to a 77 shovelhead FXE. I added a S&S super B carb, Andrews cam, and solid lifters trying to make it fast.
It was a little quicker than most of my friends Harleys but was never fast, especially compared to what the Japanese were putting out at the time. Since than I've wasted a lot of time and money trying to make evo's and twin cams fast also.
A while back I picked up an 04 Yamaha Vmax for a couple grand. Now I leave the Harleys stock and ride the Yamaha when I want to go fast.
If you bought a Harley for speed and handling you bought the wrong bike.

^^^^^^^ THAT is the ugliest conglomeration of bolted together, mismatched, goofy looking parts I've ever seen! Chopped off front fender, black wheels, enormous gawdy radiator, engine that looks exactly like CP3O from Star Wars, unfinished side covers (I guess that's what those are), shocks that look giant springs from a ball point pen, an awful looking rear fender, metric mirrors and turn signals, all topped off with a really ugly set of mufflers........yea, great looking bike!! Besides, the Scout was REALLY supposed to be a Victory Octane, they just changed a couple minor things and called it a Scout when Polaris pulled the plug on Victory. You can see apart from some cosmetic covers, that's the same fork, seat, tank, frame, and engine in the Scout.......

I agreed with the first sentence completely until I had the opportunity to ride my son's Kawi ZX-14r. Bikes like the 14r seem to have an off hand 'this is really easy' kind of power delivery. It's a relentless pull across an 8000 rpm wide power band. And it is intoxicating. I still agree with the second sentence in the quote, especially with respect to the 14r. I can't handle the 14r's power but damn, it is fun trying. If I can just get my courage up to set the traction/wheelie control to the 'off' position maybe I'll make some progress. Or not.. :-)

Oh yeah, I've got 42,000 miles on mine. Some of those miles are single lane. Durable as the day is long. Rode to Colorado and did the 14,000' peaks tour. Next year, we rode our Tigers to Vancouver for a family celebration. (The Multnomah Falls, Oregon were awesome.)
I bet my XC800 jumps a lot better than my FXDL (Even though the HD is 4 model years newer.) But, then again, I haven't tried taking the HD off some sweet jumps...

Just like the fat bitch, someone will say to ride it. Im well aware of what it is. Its still better looking than most of the softail lineup.

Harley Davidson has not stopped producing motorcycles since 1903, regardless of ownership. Indian can't honestly make a claim like that as they have stopped production and closed numerous times.

In the looks department, there is no contest.
does not matter what YOU do. you don't ride an indian scout. why compare apples to oranges. they are different engines. point is if the stock scout rider wants to tap the power, it's there; if a sportster rider wants tap 80+ hp, tough... it ain't there. bottomline is hd needs to do something there.

and that chart is old. the standard for scouts is about 90hp. looks are subjective
