I switched all my lights - head, driving, tail, turn and brake to HD smoked LED versions and am very pleased with the results. I think they are brighter than the stock incandescent versions that came on the bike, plus they look a lot better.
^ I really hope some jackwagon didn’t get that tattoo for real. There’s much better Snicker’s commercials to emulate than that pile. (I really don’t know for sure if there is but that one annoys the absolute crap out of me)

I think it's actually a Milky Way commercial (No Regerts). That one bugs me too!
I’m using Custom Dynamics LEDs with smoked lenses and the run-turn-brake gizmo on both of my bikes and if anything, people bitch that my taillights are TOO bright.
Amber lenses in rear, clear in front. Smoked lenses are like looking through tinted glass.

I have used all types of lenses on stock bulbs, LED bulbs, Bright *** Lights, and Custom Dynamics LEDs. No light meter to back up my statements, HOWEVER, I have found a small but appreciable difference in light output using both stock incandescent bulbs and LEDs when changing from stock red and amber lenses to smoked lenses all the way around. Not an insignificant degree, but certainly not considerable. It is "noticeable". Recently I have switched away from BOTH the stock red / amber AND the smoked lenses in favor of clear lenses all the way around, and in this instance, the difference in output seems quite substantial, even in bright sunlight.

I've wondered if "visors", like these (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Smoked-Turn...19.m1438.l2649), could also make a difference in how much light is seen by the amount being more "directed" where you want it? For this cheap of a price, I've been considering getting them, maybe with clear lenses, though, from what you said above.
