After the wreck ...
Been reading several tales about the long waits, etc. when a bike gets crunched and needs TLC to get 'er back on the road. I guess I'm lucky I've never had a new, fully insured bike. Every time I get crunched by someone, I get the estimates, file the claim, get the check made out to me, then buy whatever parts I can't fix myself, buy other parts I want with the extra from the parts I fixed instead of replaced, and buy even more parts I want with the extra for my labor. When I get done I pretty much have an updated & customized bike. Sometimes things work out!

I think that it's good that you are able to do that. Doing it youself, you get to make sure that it's done the way that you want it instead of how somebody else wants it.
