Default FatBoy'16 for StreetGlideSpecial'18

Very preliminary / intro discussion ended with:

TradeIn - FatBoy'16 denim (1,4k miles) - $13k
NewPurchase - StreetGlideSpecial'18 black - $26k

With all misc fees, i'm being asked for $14,2k

Not thrilled with the offer and disappointed with $13k trade value. I expect to continue the negotiation but thoughts on the overall numbers, especially TradeIn? FatBoy is pretty much stock. MINT condition.

If that trade in number includes the tax savings implication (paying sales tax on only $13k), then that is a very solid trade in number. Your bike is two yrs old... Just ensure the dealer does not pad their trade in figure/profit with outrageous freight/dealer prep fees. I've never paid freight/dealer prep on any of my new bikes...

Used Harley trade values are soft and new bikes are expensive.
Sell the Fatboy privately and buy a used SG.
Dealer deals are more expensive because you are paying for the convenience and instant gratification.
PP deals take more effort and time.
Dealer showrooms grab your emotions, walk away of you don't like the deal. If you are asking us, you have doubts.

13k trade-in sounds pretty fair given the new Fat Boy's have what Harley considers HUGE UPGRADES.
A entirely updated style, bigger engine, more power and other perks. Selling your bike to a customer standing next to the new M8 bike is gonna be a tough sell unless they can sell it cheap. So they aren't gonna offer top dollar or near what you can privately sell it for.
As far as dealers are concerned.... You, me, we ride outdated dinosaurs. Lol

Be wise for you to check out the M8 forum.
Trouble with oil migration from trans to primary, oil pump and no tuners.

Read them and know what trouble your (possibly)getting......

Yep. That will be the plan. I should be able to collect more than $13k but obviously that will come with much more effort.

Thanks, gents!

I would rather have a '16 Fatboy that's on fire than a new '018. So would many, I suspect.

Private sales are VERY difficult in today's crappy bike market...if you really watch ebay and CL you will see that 90% of bikes listed don't sell at all.

I wanted to stay away from that statement as i know some folks are sensitive, especially those who did purchase FatBoy'18. lol. Having said that, I'm with you. If I had $20k and needed to pick between FatBoy'16or'17 VS. '18, the latter wouldn't even be an option. Mildly put, I hate '18 look. Someone else might disagree and that is perfectly fine with me.

So true, lol. My SGS was the greatest, most advanced bike in the world according to the sales guy when I purchased it in July, 2016. Now, he asks why I'm not trading in that "old" tech for a new '18. Told him he will have to wait at least 10 years. I love my bike and am still adding mods......
