The "Battery Tender" is the best known maintainer, but they're awful proud of them($). There's a lot of other charger makers that sell automatic maintainers, I have a bunch of different brands that do the same thing. Just make sure it clearly says it will not over charge the battery.

Lets see, I have a Schumacher, a Die-Hard and other brands. Usually 1 to 2 amps. They all do the same thing. I use them not only on my two bikes, but on my boat to keep the expensive start and deep cycle house battery on full charge.

I leave my tender hooked up all winter.
Being the non trusting type I am, I decided to check the charge rate after a few days of the bike being on the tender. When the tender was in float charge, the charge rate was .015 amps or about .2 watts- a totally insignificant amount of charge going on.
So, leave it on and don't worry. (This was a battery tender plus)

Set it and forget it. They will not overcharge. Some guys say they hook them up for a few days a month, the constant drain/charge cycle wears a battery down prematurely over time, albeit very slowly. Hook er up and fogetabout it.

I do! But then again I ride all winter. Florida, great in the winter, Sucks in the summer. My peak riding season is just starting.

My bikes are on a tender at all times when in the garage....all year round. Never any problems with that.
