Question Dealer Charges

Just got a new low rider....can anyone fill me in on what dealers charge for the 1,000 mile check? Am I correct in assuming that I can take the bike to any dealer for the check?

Thanks for your help!

Yeah, Get ready to kiss $400 goodbye and any dealer can do it.
Although, I've always let my dealer do the first 1000. After that, they don't touch mine.
Do yourself a favor, buy the service manual and save some dime. My services, when all 3 holes get changed, is about $90 with the oil I use and about an hour of my time. Time well spent knowing it's done and done right.

Mine was (around) $418 out the door, with all syn fluids.
Only reason I had the 1000 miles check up done by them was to hopefully catch any issues.
I bought the manual the day I bought the bike.
I do my own work, the only time this one will go in is if it us under warranty.

Enjoy the new bike & ride safe

Same here. There are so many things to check at the 1K service, I wanted the dealer to do it and have records of it. From now on, dealer gets warranty work only. What my husband and I can't do, we have a good Harley mechanic that we trust.

My dealer charged $420 for the first service but I negotiated a half price service when I bought the bike.

I've found that the more miles on the bike, the more it costs to have the service done. Plus, it bepends on what model the bike is, touring vs. soft tail, if they have to remove bags and such.

I should add, they used synthetic fluids. I didn't think they would nor do I understand the variance on what Dealerships charge. The Dealer I bought the bike at quoted me $550. I guess they just charge whatever they want.

Service has become a "cash cow" for dealerships. It's positively crazy the money they charge for the amount of work done, or the expertise required to do that work...

And it's not limited to only HD dealers. The money the marina gets for simple boat service are every bit as high, and higher. $100+ for 4 quarts of oil and a filter. Same effort as changing the oil in a car. Same basic materials also- not synthetic oil, cartridge filter.
Been doing that work myself as well.
