I ran the Shinko 777 for awhile. Excellent traction and handling in all conditions, but MAYBE 4500 miles on the rear. Front acts like it'll live forever. Running Avon Cobra on the rear now, it's lasting very well, so far. Run about 44 lbs in back.

Rapid acceleration is expensive.

Default Tire life...

Thanks for the imput. Seems that with a 240 rear tire getting around 5000 miles is within the norm. For an old man, I ride the hell out of my breakout in the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountians. Not only an I going to replace the tire, but new foot pegs will also need to be purchased.
Thanks,
Barnbldg

Also, if you want to reduce rear tire wear and increase front tire wear, use the front brake more than the rear. For 95% of my casual stops, 100% front brake is what I use.

I am glad I'm back to a Heritage but it's a 114, still with the skinnier tire I hope I get between 8-10k.

I agree the width seems to make a difference. Compound may be different too. All I know is, I was lucky to get 8k out of my rear tire (200) on the Fat Boy and got an easy 18k miles on the RK, both Dunlops. Actually did quite a bit of 2-up riding on the RK, while I can't remember anyone being a passenger on the FB.

Wink Metzler ME 888's

I just replaced my Metzler ME 888 on the rear, my third and have been averaging 14,000 miles on the last two. I don't ride as hard as a lot of the folks here but I do ride a lot {about 15,000 a year}. But my indie was impressed that I am consistently getting that sort of mileage and recommended I stay with the Metzler{it ain't broke so...}.

Replaced the front with a new Metzler {also ME 888}, a few months back but it only has 5,000 miles on it and still looks new so I have no idea what sort of mileage I will ultimately get. I like having the same tire front and rear as a matched set.

I agree. I replaced my front tire at 26K. The rear has 30K and I would need a micrometer to tell me if it had any wear.

For what its worth I typically only got 5000 miles out of my stock tires, and I drove it like an adult.

I have a Metzeler 260-40-18 sitting in the garage waiting to go on this winter. Looking forward to real tires on my bike. Don't lose any sleep over it, wear them out and move on.
I'd like to see a photo of a 240 on a Softail with no chicken strips. Hard parts touch down long before you get to the edge of the tire.
