Jackets and cool fall temps
#11
Core temperature is key. As others have said - get a heated jacket liner and maybe heated gloves to go with it if you don't have heated grips. You'll be warmer, ride better, and you'll never go back to riding without one once it gets cold outside.
Textile vs leather is a matter of choice, I have, use and like both of em.

Heated Socks
Matt...When I got my heated gloves and jacket liner, the first thing I noticed was my legs and feet stayed warm. If your body core stays warm then the blood circulating down to your feet will also be warm.
Another thing that really feels good is the heating circuit in the collar of the jacket liner. I have always had a problem with the wind going down my neck and cooling me down. With the liner, you just zip it all the way up and it blocks the wind and heats your neck.
I would suggest getting the heated jacket liner and heated gloves at the same time, and you'll see what I'm talking about.
BTW Gordon Gerbing heated started Gerbings and is back now producing his own gear again. His quality is second to none so it costs a little bit more but the wiring has a lifetime guarantee.

I have both text and leather and can't tell you the last time I wore any thing other then my light weight leather jacket. Also have a heater jacket liner and when it gets cold I plug in. Got caught in the mountains with 20 degree weather doing 65mph and I was the only warm one in the group.

the newer textile gear may outperform leather in every way, including abrasion resistance. all high end textile gear will have either Kevlar or 840 Cordura reinforced high wear areas.
here is a good article on the pros and cons of each.

Wish I would have checked this thread sooner. Reminds me that I need to hook up heated gear plug to new bike as I will be taking it early Wednesday for stage one. But to answer OP question, that is how I stay warm. Gerbings outer jacket is textile and decent enough. Have had it maybe 5 years, their jacket liner much longer. Head to toe heat when it is really cold. Plug and play.
