Default Dealer Wouldn't Take My Check

Not a rant but I found this rather unusual. I have purchased many cars and motorbikes with a personal check but the dealer wanted a cashiers check or credit card. I don't get it. Some people would be insulted and I have to admit it did put me off balance for a second. Never happened before.

I thought the only person left, still writing checks was Bernie Sanders!

I wanted to use my AmEx to buy my last bike (for the points), but they would not let me because of the processing fee. I am surprised they gave you that option.

Sounds like they've been stung before. Kind of interesting that they would take a credit card, and pay about 3% in fees.

my dealership took a check for the full amount. I'd be pissed if they wanted me to get a cashier check when they could call the bank and verify the funds

I've seen a couple of places where if the CC is over $500 they add the fees to the bill...

You should have whipped out your CC and made them AND you happy. Simple.

I tried to buy a car on my credit card. They refused. When I asked why, they said that I could drive it for a week or two, run it into a tree, then call the CC company and dispute the charge. They didn't want the potential hassle.

While I understand the logic, I can't imagine anybody actually trying that.
