Default Harley Sound Systems

Hey everybody. New to the forum here, from what I have been reading everyone seems really helpful! I have a quick question about sound systems for Harleys. I just got my Fatboy last year and love it. I am going on an 8000 mile trek across country and back this summer and was interested putting a sound system on the bike so I could listen to some tunes going down the road. Does anyone have any experience, recommendations? I appreciate any suggestions that you guys may have.

Also, my grandfather, father and I are raising money for pediatric cancer research through this cross country trip and back, which we have created a website for atwww.k3ride.org Check it out!

Most motorcycle sound systems are A$$ Ugly, I use an iPod & helmet speakers that go into my 3/4 or full face helmet & they work great! the speakers I got from www.whitehorsepress.com.

If you really want a system, Harley makes the road tech riser mount radio, it looks about as good as one can & it sounds awesome, plus you can add GPS or XM to it w/ HD handlebar mount items,

It's not H-D but you can get some decent speakers in chrome small housings from Drag Specialties and hook up a small ipod to them. I just saw and heard this system fitted to a Heritage Classic and it looked and sounded great. The speakers were the size of regular H-D turnsignals and damn they could crank. The bike had aftermarket pipes and even when he was leaving the light and going thru the gears I could still hear the tunes.

If I didn't know about the speakers it would have been difficult to notice them, they blend in real well and the ipod was mounted by the throttle, all in all it was a damn clean setup and I'd run it if I had a bike without a full fairing.

dragonfly makes a fairing for a sound system....and you can add your own radio, speakers with a amp. the Ipod can hook up to the radio, if thats the route you wanna go. I would add my own system instead of getting it from dragonfly, unless you know someone who knows how to get the best sound out of the system for your bucks.

Somehow I can't imagine listening to music on a bike, unless it's through earphones, but I've never tried. I just put screamin' eagle slip-ons on my Harley sound system to quiet it down from the drag sound system it had before.

In the last year I purchased a sound system from Illinois Harley in Berwyn Ill. For the life of my I don't recall the manufacturer name and dont want to guess because I tried a couple others that were just plain and simple crap.

For one the amp is billet aluminum and mounts below the tank and looks like a factory part. The speakers and also billet, small, powerful and mount under the mirrors and don't stand out at all. The sound qualilty is superior!!! Very little custom wiring is needed. Outside of terminating power, everything for the most part is play and play. Comes with a very nice chrome mount for a MPE player. Did I mention the speakers are waterproof? Don't laugh, a lot of companys offer water proof speakers as a "option". I installed the system on my wifes Heritage and it has been flawless. You can also hook up a satalite receiver in minutes.

Just bought her the Harely (Garmen) Gps which has the built in MP3 player. Just plugged in the amp and off she went. The cool part about the GPS is, it will give you audible instructions and will interrupt the music while it barks out direction commands! A superior system. Did I mention, it is a superior system? The sound is as clear as a bell with a helmet on doing 70mph! And yes, she has VERY loud exhaust!

I got a deal on the sound system (as the parts manager owed me a favor) for about $250.00. I believe it is about a 100 bucks more now and you must provide your own MP3 player. I think it makes more more sense to go with an XM statalite. You can travel cross country, through the mountains and never have to change a channel. This is based on personal experience as I have XM on my Roadglide, and not hearsay! 4000 miles in a week and never lost a station! The GPS was $800.00, but will worth the money.

If you want a good system, prepare to spend a few bucks. Buyer beware, there is a lot of junk out there.

Good luck. (Illinois Harley Davidson, Berwyn Illinois. Ask for Christina)
