I also think the quality of the asphalt surfacing is a factor in the heat. I've parked my bike in both Las Vegas and in Phoenix in the summer when temps were over 110 and the kickstand didn't even leave a mark. Each time the bike sat for at least two hours while I was busy with other things. I still carry a disc though and use it if I think the surface is crappy or I'm in dirt or loose gravel parking.

I work for a municipality. Once asphalt has cured it usually is not a problem. I got an old street sign and cut it small enough to put in my windshield bag. Also use it in sandy or grassy spots or even if I suspect it will fall over.

last year my work put out the covers from electricial boxes. probably couldnt have cost more than a quarter each i would think. a bit bigger than a crushed can. i have picked up a number from rallies. usually insurance places give them out for free.

Ive heard keep a crushed soda can and toss it down when you park but that doesnt seem like its solid enough to stop a kickstand from sinking.
It is. Your bike sinks because its full weight is concentrated on just a couple of square inches of kickstand and your kickstand sort of "punctures" the asphalt. The can distributes the weight out over a larger area. You won't see any can-sized holes in the pavement.
Yep, just needs a bigger area so the pressure isn't as high. It's the same as if you are on ice and it starts to crack.. you should lay flat so you have the same force over a larger area making a less pressure. Crushed can would work fine if ya wanna be a cheap a$$

I use the H-D disc, keep it in my saddle bag, but rarely use it, only if the asphalt seems questionable or if it's really really hot.
