RE: Tar Snakes
Don't see to many of those things down here. I have lost traction on those darn raised turn arrow and lane stickys they put down. Those things are slicker than snot when wet.

RE: Tar Snakes
The roads in Utah are covered with them, the first time I hit one going around a corner I thought I was going down, then I caught traction and life was good again. I hate those road boogers.

RE: Tar Snakes
Yeppers, they are as mean as a junkyard dog. Just have to try to ride around em as best you can, and if not, just slow down a tad.
No way MODOT would ever consider doing anything any different though.[:@]

I forget about them from year to year only to get the terrifing reminder once the repaired pavement get hot.Afterwards, I look for them after that and do fine. I especially hate the the ones parrellelwith the curve.

Tar snake?
Tar snake?
I've never lost it on them, but they're all over here in South Texas.
The closest I've come to getting bit, was one time I needed to do an emergency stop when the driver in front of me decided she needed to make a left turn and chose to stop in the left lane instead of using the friggin TURN lane in the middle of the road. She stopped so quick, I hit the brakes hard on while on the snackes and my rear tire started swinging all over the place. Still don't know how I managed to keep the bike up, but I did.
this is what they look like ken:

RE: Tar Snakes
Hit a fresh one in a local mall parking lot a couple of weeks ago. Basturds had just poured them and sprinkled sand over them, problem was the sand was about the same shade as the faded asphalt and them damn snakes were about invisible. Felt the rear tire start going sidewaysand about **** myself. Fortunately I was going slow and caught it.

RE: Tar Snakes
I had my first encounter with snake tar this past weekend in Cincinatti. It was 90* and I'mcoming arounda curve 2-up with Tbag full. The backendkicked out. Istraightened the bike best I could and struggled to keep it on the pavement. I wish I had read this post before that. I didn't know they were slick in heat/rain.
