Default 883-1200 conversion

Looking to do a SE1200 conversion on my 883 iron. Just wondering if its worth getting some new cams while im at it. Wouldnt mind a bit more top speed but mainly after acceleration.

You'd probably find it more economical to sell it and just buy a 1200.

You might consider going with the Hammer Performance kit.

As far as cams go, yes, you'll get more out of the new top end if you get the right cams. Give the guys at Hammer a call and talk over your options.

Cams are always worth it no matter what size engine you have. Cams are probably the biggest bang for the buck you can get as far as performance goes.

The hammer is a nice kit, but isn't boring an 883 to 1200 also about losing weight?
I had a sporty converted back in the 90's and it was a beast.. Eh' before, but after it'd leave rubber at a slight twist of the wrist.

With some of the deals I have seen on Sporty's could you not trade up as cheap?

Good luck whichever way you go.

There is a ton of information about 1250 conversions on this and a Sportster specific forum. If you Google 1250 conversion you will see. Many have gotten 100+ hp at the wheel. That said, even a simple kit and cam can get you over 80 rear wheel hp. A good dyno tune will also get the most from your bike. In the 90s I did a 1200 conversion myself and with a new ignition and carb tweak it ran really well.

I remember in the 90's Wiseco sold a reverse dome kit that eliminated the need to relieve the heads.

The Sportster Performance Handbook by Buzz Buzzelli is a pretty good read.
