Default 2017/2018 aftermarket pipes/slip-ons/tuning

Hello. I have no experience with the new engines, but hear the rumors you can't add the typical pipes and slip ons and all that due to warranty enforcement changes.

However, Are the manufacturers making pipes for these bikes, and can folks still get a classic rumble sound like we are all so used to...regardless of the warranty concern ?

Anyone actually change out pipes and more on a M8?

Thanks.

Many posts on this.

The issue is when you start adding performance upgrades that take the bike out of compliance. EPA agreement states Harley will void warranty on bikes that take it out of compliance. But everyone I have talked to at dealers from Sturgis to my home state says if all you do is slip-ons, most dealers aren't going to flag you. But if you bring your bike in with a full aftermarket exhaust and stage 1 high performance tune, you're going to get popped. If it is of major concern I would err on the side of caution and not do too much until warranty is up. The only thing I am doing with my new Road King is slip-ons for a little better sound and I'm done. No need or desire for more.

Plus you live in Ca, your mufflers must have an EPA stamp.
Just because you can buy it doesn't make it legal.

how about answering the questions?

I actually said "regardless of the warranty concern" yet, that still was not clear enough to ward off irrelevant comments.

Wow. I surrender.

Don't surrender so quickly. Here, I'll do the work for you and lead you to the M8 Section where you can read all about what changes people have made to their M8 bikes.

You can't get an M8 to sound like a shovel or Evo, regardless of warranty concerns. There are various heard pipes, slip ons etc available. It sounds like its own thing, which is more like a VROD than an Evo.

The warranty problems center around the use of an aftermarket tuner.

I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket for running non-EPA stamped pipes though. None of my bikes have EPA stamped pipes, and I don't worry about it. If we had an inspection process for registration it might be a problem.

As far as warranty, if I bought a new bike I would just assume no warranty. No way am I going to leave my bike alone. I could try while under warranty, but I don't think I would make it two years.
