After seeing the 2018 line-up, Are you going to buy?
#581
Your poll assumes that either someone is going to buy a 2018, or they are not going to buy because of not liking the new models.
I fit neither of your questions.
I have not yet looked at the 2018's, so I don't know if I like them or not.
I do not plan to buy another bike anytime soon, regardless of what I think of the new ones.
One thing that has happened every year I've been on this forum is the obligatory new model bashing that follows the new model introduction.

I was in the market. Waited to see the new models since they were so near. Liked what I saw and bought it. Now I have my bike and won't be in the market maybe ever again. But I won't be joining in with the annual trashing ritual.

If that were the case, you'd see an FXR style bike back in the lineup which you don't. Also, baggers are the biggest seller and you ain't getting the front end up on a 1,000 lb bike without a whole lot of work.

I'm still looking.
I understand for almost all people, motorcycles, especially BMW's and Harley-Davidson's are luxury items and not everyone can buy what they want. But we often buy what we can afford. That is why there is a line ranging from 883 to CVO. Either you can afford it or not.
I'm having a hard time though digesting the touring bike price points where the Road King Special has less hardware on it than the Road King and the RKS is a higher priced bike and sold at a premium. I like the blacked out look, but come on.
From what I can tell a Road King saddlebag sells for $233.20. The stretched bag lists for $244.51
Primary cover on a Road King is $265. RKS powder coated is $269.
The RKS has less lighting. Maybe $350 less.
The RKS has no rear saddlebag guards. There's $165.
No windshield on the RKS. There's another $320.
so yes, I know, the RKS has ABS and security standard. But when you add those to the base price of the RK, there's still a $1,800 split between the two.
I like the blacked out bikes but not sure that I want to commit to one with those differences.
I've also listened to the salesman, and have read all the discussions, but, but, if you add these all blacked out parts separately to the base...
that doesn't matter, they are identical bikes coming down the line except for a couple minor differences in the parts bin. From a manufacturing standpoint, the manufacturing costs are nearly identical. Really no reason to charge nearly $2,000 more with $700 less material on the bike.

I rode the Fat Bob 107 last weekend. I liked it. If I could have a second bike, I'd take the Bob, but with the 114.

I didn't vote because even though there is a good chance of me buying another bike in 2018, I can't say for sure it will be a Harley. Although I really did like the 2018 Heritage I looked at, I am waiting for the new Triumph Speedmaster, based on the Bobber, to be released. I have a hard time justifying spending >$20k on a bike that is no more capable than one costing $12k-$14k. I love Harleys and always have, but the cost of moving up to the bigger bikes makes me take a huge step back and look at other manufacturers, namely Triumph, to see what they have to offer that meets my needs.
Like a lot of people here I was not a fan of HD dropping the Dyna line. At the same time I understand the need for HD to evolve and attract a new generation of riders. Even though HD's market share in the US is about 51%, their sales in the second quarter have dropped by just over 9%. With declining sales and an aging customer base, HD has no choice but to evolve or eventually go the way of the original Indian.
