I don't think the Diavel will jump that much in price. Plus the Low Rider starts at $14,999. Minor details? Probably. Yet the Fat Boy starts at 18,999.
I am willing to look at several different types of bikes for my next bike. The BMW R1200RT might be a sport-tourer, but it's truly a comfortable long hauler. The K1600GTL is a real touring rig.
My point is that there is a lot of excellent competition out there. Since Harley-Davidson has intentionally taken themselves off their island, they are fair game for everything else that's available and should be judged accordingly.

Seeing as how BMW doesn't do V twins, their only line which might have cross over with HD would the R 9 T variants. I owned a first year R 9 T but wanted to get back into longer distance riding. Hands down that bike was stupid fun. BMWs boxer twins are so much lighter in weight than about any V other than Ducati and backed up with the hp and torque to make them move.
If people think HD is priced too high then Indian is just as bad if not worse as it gets sillier when you look at their accessory pricing

I think HD's next move will be to redesign the Sportster/Street line and come up with better performing bikes that are priced in the $8,000-$13,000 range. Can't wait to see that!

Agreed. Triumphs aren't cheap either. The 1700cc Thunderbird LT starts at $17k, the stripped down Storm starts at $15k, their Bonneville's with the 1200cc motor range from $12k to $15k, and their 900cc bikes are about $9k.

I've always thought if anything happened to my Street Bob I'd definitely replace it with a new one. Not now! I could (grudgingly) live with all the changes except the reduction in tank size - that's a dealbreaker. What were they thinking? Plus, that new tank doesn't even look like it fits the bike, with the giant gap between the tank and the seat. Guess I'll be buying used from now on, since the only other model I had any interest in was the Lowrider, and they screwed that one up too. As far as new bikes, never thought I'd say it but I'll be looking at Triumph, or maybe Ducati.

Just got back from the dealer. The had 18's they had in stock were the Fat Boy, Heritage, Street Bob, Street Glide Special, CVO Street Glide and Road Glide Special.
The SGS they had was Vivid Black and the CVO was a charcoal color. I honestly though side by side the SGS with everything blacked out looked better than the CVO. Still stuff I like about the CVO, but if I was buying right now it might be the SGS. The SGS actually had the same wheels as the CVO which I thought was odd. The non-CVO SG is the only bike now that does not come with LED headlight though. They should have put a Day Maker on them IMO.
The Fat Boy looked better in person than online. Still not sure about the square nacelle, but I could probably get used to it.
The Heritage also looks better in person (especially the bags), but I am still not a Heritage fan.
The Street Bob looks good in person.
I talked to one of the managers that I am friends with, and he said they are selling a lot of bikes since the 18's hit the floor. The 18's are selling quickly but so are the 17's to people that don't like the 18's. They sold the Fat Bob they had, but he said the thing is impressive to ride and his personal ride is a tricked out Dyna.
All in all I think the bikes look better in person.
