Default best / most reliable engine from 2001 to 2017

Kicking-around the idea of getting a used Harley for my 'out-to-pasture' days.
The last time I rode a Harley was in 1980.

After reading up on the forum, seems like the consensus is the -Evo- was/is the most reliable engine to date.
Those bikes are getting harder to find with low mileage.

I guess my question is which year model had the best Twin Cam engine and how does it compare in performance and reliability with the Evo of yesteryear?
thanks!

If you don't mind turning wrenches, you can probably keep an Evo going forever. They look better too. Twin Cams are bulky looking as **** and the M8 looks like a jap motor.

Still plenty of garage queen Evos out there. A bit of determination and patience will smoke them out.

I was in the market for a $6k Harley for a second bike. The wife can ride our other bike, I was looking for something a little more basic. Really didn't have a specific model in mind, just wanted something I wouldn't have to spend another grand on to make it fit. For what its worth, the one thing I found in that price range, at least in this market, was that the asking price was more for late model Evos than they were for early model Twin Cams.

The Evo is starting to be cool now because the motors after it just aren't.

That's why you can get a whole Evo motor and trans setup for less than you can get an crusty *** Shovel.

My TC may not be cool, but it's been rock solid reliable for it's first 69,000 + miles.

even the late models? those 16 to 18 year models look pretty good but I'm unsure of all those electronics on the new stuff.
