That's easy enough, but who among us, on a night out on the town hasn't lost his pants? I don't think these type of suggestions are helpful.

You are missing a HUGE opportunity here! Tell your wife the only possible way for your bike and belongings will ever be safe again is if you purchase a new bike. The real benefit here is SHE lost the fob making her responsible for the whole gory mess in the first place. I've been married 4 times.
