Default Ridiing/ Hiking boots

Looking for a good pair of riding boots that are also good for hiking. I need them to be waterproof and comfortable for all day walking.

No Red Wings please, have had 2 pairs as well as Carolinas and could not find a pair that fit me well or were comfortable. I must have odd feet as most find them extremely comfy.

I could not find any Red Wings or Carolinas that were comfortable. I have wore Tmberland pro's for the last 6 years. I have a pair I work ( 12 hour shifts in ) then the same kind that I ride in.

I don't know that riding and hiking boots are really the same thing. I sure as hell wouldn't want to walk all day in my biking boots. I could probably ride all day in my hiking boots though.

If you want Hiking boots, Meindl are very good.

If you want riding boots, then Daytona and TCX are both excellent.

Asolo and Salomon are premium waterproof hiking boots and really waterproof. My Salomons have the additional benefit of being black.

I've got some Keen hiking boots that are very comfortable, padded and waterproof. I have worn them riding to work on occasion, but I wouldn't take them out for an all day ride. Short boots offer some, but not much, protection.

Multipurpose usually means mediocre. To do one well sacrifices the other.

I'm gonna agree with this. I had a pair of Wescos back in my wildland firefighting days, when a motorcycle was my only mode of transportation. They wore superbly in the field and on the bike. And I wore them in absolutely every type of terrain you could imagine. And, if I recall correctly, I had them for 11 or 12 years. Money well spent.

+1 on the Bates. I've used their combat boots for a lot of years. They last and don't cost an arm and a leg.
