With the "King of the Highway" package. Cool to look at, but 45 YO vinyl is like iron to sit on.

Bike's worth about $3500 give or take in your neck of the woods as it sits, keep in mind the 72's still had drum brakes with the front being cable actuated and very hard suspension. 71 & 72 had a few quirks particular to those year motors only and some stuff will not interchange with aftermarket stuff unless you know what your doing. Isn't going to be a daily rider without a lot of work and upkeep that's been neglected.

You're new to shovels this may not be a good choice depending on what you want out of one.

I'm seeing at least 3K in extras once he opens that can of worms.

I appreciate all the comments guys.

1972 was the first year for the disc brakes. Unfortunately I have never found a running Shovel under $4500.

Nope 73 was, 72 still had the round swingarm and drum juice rear, I've had several 72's.

At least. Who knows how deep the hole is until you start turning wrenches?

I was referring to the front. '72 was the first year for a disc front, correct?

did they go to a rear disc in 73?

the brakes and seat issues mentioned are chicken feed compared to what is hiding behind door number 2 of this bike.

If you can take it for a little ride you will learn something. For one thing, try to find out how it shifts between gears and see how easy or impossible it is to snick it into neutral. It's going to need a going through if it's been sitting for a while. If you are knee deep in an ironhead job this is going to be more of the same. I've got one of each; I would much rather work on a shovel than a sportster. If you buy it, put it in the corner and let it sit until the ironhead is running well. You are going to be disappointed if you think you can just start riding it when you get it home.
