You're a Sportster fan; I get it.

If you want an entry level Honda, you get a Grom or a Rebel.
Got to disagree. I've been riding 35 years and I would not hesitate to buy or ride a Sportster. There are experienced riders on here who have put tens of thousands of miles on Sportsters.

I put 35K on mine before I sold it.

I have a list from an ad by a big Chicago area Honda dealer with the blow out prices on 14, 15 and 16 NOS models that they can't sell. That is the history of Honda that few talk about.

They have warehouses full of NOS bikes. Took them about 6 years to clear out the 08 VTX models and had to auction off the 04/05 Runes after the same amount of time.

Honda had an official press release a 2 to 3 years back that they would no longer design a bike for the US market. The last bike they thought the US market would fall head over heals about was that 1300 custom bike looking thing that I can't remember the name of any more. Total sales flop.

Oh! If the Sportster is an entry level bike then why after 61 years of riding why do I have an 03 883R, 09 XR1200, 14 XL1200T and a 16 Roadster in my garage? They are great machines. Entry level my ***.

If I ever become a multiple Harley in the garage kind of guy, a Sporty will be one of them. I took an '88 1200 from Chicago to New Orleans and back by way of SW Missouri and Arkansas down then Alabama and Tennessee back in 1993, camping the whole way with a mountain of gear bungeed everywhere it would fit. The bike handled it great. I was a younger man then but still my *** was sore for a month.

Both the Sportster and the CB1100 share extrinsic appeal. Nostalgia, tradition, art, whatever it is, so long as the appeal is more important than the actual features and capabilities of the machines there will be some market for them. Based on numbers the HD Sportster leads this category with only insignificant competition. The CB1100 rarely attracts buyers that do not have some strong connection to the CB750, or at least other bikes from that era. Since the Sporty has frequently been the entrée to HD ownership, sales numbers are huge. Bottom line, if a bike makes the owner feel good, what else really matters?

Honda Fury. Chopper-like. I think a key reason it flopped was timing - it came out about 10 seconds before the chopper craze completely collapsed. Well, that, and it was a VTX... Nothing "custom" about it whatsoever.

I like it. Looks like with a small flyscreen and soff bags it would be comfortable enough for long days too, at least a solid 300-400 miles of backroads.

I just happened to go with a buddy of mine to get new tires on his street glide today and rode the new rodester again just to compare them and that rodester is definitely not a beginner bike... It's most definitely a good computation for the cb1100. Good power good cornering good brakes. Nice bike... but I got a great deal on the Honda and the $1000 rebate made it impossible for me to get close in price on the sportster
