A leather vest will provide some abrasive protection to your upper torso but certainly not the rest of your body. I have a vest I wear here considering the temperatures that it gets in the summer and I guess I figure it's maybe one step safer than no vest at all.

Yes many put their affiliation on the back and then go as wild as they want with outher patches and pins.

Good for patches in the summer when the heavy jacket is too hot. I picked up the interstate leather vest for $50 at costal farm in Portland, OR.

I think you can also buy an oversized vest, one that will fit over your expensive leather jacket and use the vest for your club affiliation patches, or patriot guard patches. This way you don't have to sew through a nice leather jacket and distroy water proofing on the FXRG jackets from Harley.

I also use a jean vest over my leather jacket with my club patches and pins. Its easy on and off and I have a clean leather jacket for trips that are not club events.

I use both the leather vest and the jean vest for different functions. The leather vest provides a measure of warmth under your jacket in winter also, but very little protection in a butt slide!

I wear a vest in warm weather and in addition to the points noted above, it also offers some protection from the stones and big ole june bugs that you hit doing 70 mph.

My cousin went down last year and slid on his back for about 30 feet. Vest was scratched to he!!. He wasn't. I have worn one ever since.

vests are good for putting your patch on if you are in a club. i wouldnt depend on one for protection in a crash.

i suppose its better than a tshirt or something, but having seen people crash, and having been there myself, the big impact points are hands, elbows, and shoulders (that was a surprize to me).

get a good leather jacket is for protection. the vest is just for adding patches. or if you sing in a barber shop quartet you can add arm garters and fit right in.
