Interestingly enough, I looked at the area pretty carefully. No scratching, but that discoloration was prominent. I should be able to get it out with a couple more elbow grease sessions, but it's stubborn.

I put 3M clear paint protectant on mine before I started using the magnetic pouch and have no worries about scratches. My bike is black so I can't say it'll stop discoloration but it's worth a shot
