House needs a roof so I thought, well hells bells, I've got two bikes, I'll sell my clean, sano -04 Wide Glide. Thirteen K on the clocks well maintained, lots of chrome. Great scoot.
I cannot even get $6K for it.
Screw it, I'll keep it and hit the guitar collection a bit harder. No way I'm going to give away a putt like that. Is this the same deal all over the USA? I live in a small town on the Pacific Ocean up north. But I advertised it in the Sacramento/San Francisco Craigslist and all I got was an e-mail from Ahmed saying he was going to pay me in bit coin...

A simple cliche describes the situation; Harleys are a dime a dozen. They are everywhere. Where I live, you only see three kinds of bikes on the roads and in the sale papers: Harleys, Honda V-twin clones (and Gold Wings), and stretched Hyabusas. Never anything else.
I found my bike used local; 1995 Wide Glide, 40k miles, probably a couple grand in upgrades, and I paid 4500, which was right at fair NADA. (Edit: based on the values I saw in NADA and KBB, which were less than the asking price, I determined I was willing to pay the asking price) Funny thing, I looked at three Softail Customs at my dealer, all of them 2009 bone stock trade ins with 20-80k on them all priced at 9995. They were butt ugly and twice as expensive as my better, yet much older bike.
It's definitely a buyer's market on used bikes. When I sold my last bike, I listed it on the forums at book price then reduced the price 100 every week until it sold. I generated a lot of "traffic" doing this as there were three kinds of watchers: those who wished they could buy as the price got more attractive, those who were pissed at seeing the value of their own bikes plummet in real time, and the one guy who came up the the cash. That's how I knew I had found the best market price for my area and timing. Guy came from six hours away with hundred dollar bills.

C'mon down to Florida & visit. Got a nice blow up bed for ya, and you may like it enough to relocate. Sanford is a couple hours northeast of me.

Beaux you stole that, looks great
So if you got that for $6k, the OP's bike might e $5k. I got an 04 too and feel real good about it. But if you are a new rider looking to get in cheap, someone would be reluctant to go for an 14 year old bike. My son just bought a HD. I found him an 03 RKC and he felt "too old, I buy it and got to already think about moving on". He bought a 2014 Fat Bob, but figures he is set for 10-15 years with that bike.
I'm thinking on mine, is there a point where I kept it TOO long and now the market tried up for that age of bike?
