Default Long shot, best seat for 80 Shovel fxs

So, new to this bike. Friends fathers who couldn't ride it anymore. I was lucky enough to get it and love it. One problem I am tall and the stock seat doesn't let me get too comfortable. Does anyone have experience or opinions on a seat that would let me sit back a bit? Solo is fine. Already have forward controls so my legs are out as far as my stock seat location will allow.

Hey, you don't need a new seat on a Shovel Head until you can feel the wing nut oil cap in between your cheeks!

Leg room is a problem for sure bit you're on the right track with forward controls and hopefully you'll be able to find a good fitting aftermarket seat.

Thanks, I am loving it so far. Something about riding a shovel just makes me happy. Must be the nostalgia.

I can just about feel it

I find myself shifting up on the raised chick seat just to stretch out a bit.

Unfortunately it's really hard to tell what will suit you without trying them out. I have been running a Corbin for about 20 years on my 79 FXS. At 6'1" it places me just right with forward controls.

When I had my shovel I had the same issue you described. The solution I went with was 3" forward control extensions. EVO softail controls bolt right up if you can't find exactly your year.

So where's the pics of this shovel?

I have a 73 FLH with what's known as the comfort flex or "beartrap" seat. It's pretty comfy but it puts me way too far forward. I sent it off to saddlemen to have it recovered and reworked to put me back further. Made quite a difference. You might want to give those guys a call.

Lepera silhouette solo with gel. Looks good on shovels and allows you to scoot back a bit. Very comfortable.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I tried to attach some photos but it is not cooperating from the iPad. I'll post some tomorrow from the PC. Too busy watching UFC right now
