Bike runs better with Supreme gas.

RE: Bike runs better with Supreme gas.
I know a lot of people run higher octane, but my manual says to run plain ole' unleaded (87 octane). It won't hurt running higher, but this is what it says it was built to run on. (This is out of an 06' Softail manual).

I thought something was wrong with my bike still because of all the enging noise. And when I wasn't being cheap on gas, I switched to supremeand "WA-LA"... "Presto chango".... No PINGING!!
Maybe that's why I haven't changed my "Nu B" name!?! [:@]

Nope, the manual calls for 87 octane. I did the test and found nooperating difference and no mpg difference with 93 octane. Just one more reason why Harley's best looking bike is the best all around--the 883xl.

It's a proven fact that any engine runs better with the lowest octane that does not allow pinging unless the manufacturer says otherwise.
And in our case, HD recommends 93 so I'd think anything lower will result in worse gas mileage and poorer performance.

There must be a difference between the EVO's and Twinks. The stock EVO has around 8.5:1 compression and is why you can run regular unleaded in them. Although, I have always (with perhaps a rare exception) run the highest octane available. I just checked my 1993 manual, and it said to use regular unleaded of at least 87 octane.
It specifically states:
DO NOT USE GASOLINES CONTAINING METHANOL.
You may use gasolines containing METHYL TERTIARY BUTYL ETHER (MTBE) in a mixture 'as much as 15% MTBE.
And that you can run ETHANOL if it is a 10% ethanol / 90% gasoline mixture.

The way things are in the Middle East I wonder ifthe filling stations will keep selling premium a few years from now.

If you're getting pinging you're risking piston, bearing damageto save a few cents a gallon by running regular. You could retard your ignition and be ok but you'd lose performance.
Good Luck
