Considering the difference between a full tank of el cheapo regular and good premium is $1, buying the cheap stuff for a $20k bikejust doesn't make any sense...

I always use the highest test I can buy. 93 is the norm.

However, I have very definitely seen people on these boards claim there is (should be) no diff in performance between the lower octanes and the higher. I find that hard to believe.

I did the 87 reg test for two weeks. Somedays 4 tanks of gas. Reg smell different and less back fire. Other then that it ran OK in the bike. Back to hight test gas. Don't like that smell.

I think the only HD that the MOCO doesn't specify using high-test is the 883.Or thats what the manual for my 04 1200 says.Don't know if thats changed since the conversion to EFI on all models now.

If you can't get the 91 or 93 octane at the pump, I would think you could add "Octane Boost" to each tank to keep the bike running right. OB can be bought at most auto parts stores.

I"m pretty sure it says in the manual for my '05 to use supreme, and I know Bruce, the HD salesman told me to use supreme.

I have only used supreme except when I was stuck at a gas station without 90-something octane and not enough gas to move on. The bike ran like poo.

A 76 station near my parents' house had racing fuel, over 100 octane. Every once in a while, I'd run my car down to fumes and put in a few gallons of the racing fuel (It was OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive, like $3/gallon), and the car ran like new. It was a 20 year old Oldsmobile with over 100k mi.

$3 a gallon is 87 octane thats not expensive for 100? I am confused[&o]

teh salesman should have told you to be sure to put premium in the tank, the owners manual, from what I have been told, says to use premium only.

Many local stations here carry the 100 octane racing fuel, it's over $5.00 per gallon, but may soon be a thing of the past since Nascar has switched to 93. When in Cherokee there was a guy who's tailipes had white inside them instead of black, I asked him about it and he said every third tank he runs 100 octane to keep the bike running perfect, havent tried it yet but I have an empty tank, just might do it today.

yep should be premium in the ride. does anyone know if the late model bikes have knock sensors to retard ignition timing? just kind curious as this would be a good reason why some of the bikes lose power when running reg. unleaded due to the detonation/pinging.

The manual for my 96 evo recommends 87 octane. I would run 93 in an 07. In the mountains 93 is normally not available but you do not need it at higher elevations.
