If MI taxes helmetless riders, how long until the helmet/free states catch on and start their own tax. I think it's bad precedent.
I agree with that statement!

What ticks me off over the whole thing is that Granholm won't approve a helmet repeal law because she thinks it isn't safe to ride with out one, and yet if you'll payher a hundred dollarsshe'll let you do it. Since when did we have to start paying to enjoy our civil rights????? I think she needs to go back to Cannada and run for an office there and let the state of Michigan recover from her BS polices and ideas that are killing our state economy. (Canadian members I do not mean this as a slur to you.) Just pointing out the differences in our system of Govt.

Operating a motor vehicle on public roadways is not a right. It is a priviledge. At least that's the way the law and constitution is written.

Mike as always you are the voice of reason I stand corrected your statement is correct. It still ticks me off the way she is ruining this state.

Thanks!

I know it's upsetting. I do think that our forefathers didn't found this country under the idea that our government would write laws to protect us from ourselves. So, if you think of it like that, then seatbelt and helmet laws are just plain wrong.

I don't remember who said it first, but I always like to go back to a favorite phrase of mine.

The right you possess to extend your arm stops where my body begins.

I think what there trying to prove is if you want to squash your brains all over then dish out some additional medical coverage.
I would rather see 500,000 additional coverage as this would more likely cover all medical and funeral costs and not burden my Blue Cross any more than what it allready is.

Additional medical coverage? Ok, I can buy that. But what is this $100 per year going to do. Now, if they used it to buy a policy for the riders, different story. But this sounds too much like bribery.

Like being able to pay $100 to the state makes you any more qualified to make your own decisions.
