Default Polishing rather than chroming forks

Anyone try this??

Sorry I promise I will do a search..

Just wondering if anyone took a polisher or polished out their front forks instead of swapping with chrome? If so, how'd it turn out? Or how about the top parts / fork covers, etc?

Ok I searched... After reading this thread https://www.hdforums.com/m_261957/tm.htm it appears polishing means removing clearcoat which means raw aluminum requiring something to cover up so they don't tarnish/oxidize/whatever aluminum does.. Requiring a new clearcoat.

So I guess it would be almost enough hassle to just swap with chrome.. Your thoughts?

only a cheap dumbass who enjoys extra work would polish them instead of puttin chrome lowers on...in order to properly polish them they should be removed...if you remove em, chrome em

Yep, that's what I'm realizing.. If you have to remove 'em.. Chrome lowers are worth it for sure.. plus just add to the expense of all the rest of the front end googies I want to do. It's negligable. Time is worth more.

It wouldn't require another clear. Just a quick touch up every month with some semichrome.

I will add that I did do mine while rebuilding with a race tech spring kit and the did turn out great. But it took a damn long time. Others have done it in "a few hours per fork", but it took me a lot longer.

Would I do it again? Heeeeelllllllll nnooo. I'd chrome 'em. It would cost more, but you'd save your time and they'd stand up to road spray (sand, rock, etc) much better.

Yup, gotta go with the chrome guys. The problem with polished aluminum is just that... you have to keep it polished. Even if you clear over the aluminum, it still has a satin'ish hazy look to it.

I'm just too damn lazy to keep polishing everything.

That's funny, I think the chrome looks Cheap and Common and the polished looks plush and not the lazy way out

I don't know about lookin' cheap...but definitely common. And yes...the polished aluminum does have a beautiful deep luster that chrome lacks.

I like my hand polished parts and I'll continue to polish them.
