My Try at Bagless Road King pics
I know many have tried to make a bagger bagless and some look good but most look like sh**--JMO.
The reason I did is cuz I can't afford a bagger AND a non-bagger so I figured I would ride one year with bags and the next year without. It would only take me a couple hours to put bags on if I needed to for trip or whatever.
Anyways, here's the pics without all the rails and modified side covers.

To me and just my opinion, it's the side covers that throw it off a little. Maybe some decals or something to break up the large area a little. I think the shocks look good. Maybe some kind of buttons on the fender bolts. Like you said it's a difficult task but I've seen much worse than what you have going on. It could be also that we are just not used to that look and it would grow on us if there more out there.

Yeah I agree on the side covers. Had them green to match bike but I was hoping the black would make them disappear......guess not-ha!. Maybe go back to green but they just stick out so much and FUGLY!
The fender bolts are in the works but haven't figured out how to cover them yet so buttons or something may work.
I really don't think it will ever look great but some tweakin here and there will satisfy for this year.
Still a work in progress

I would ride it like that and be proud. Some creative ingenuity will come along. Maybe you will be the one to start a new trend. The side covers work nicely with bags and kinda flair out to the width. Maybe find an old pair and try to chop them like an old street rod. I'm sure that here are a bunch of talented folks out there that would be willing to help.

The one thing that stuck out to me- and this is just my taste, mind- is the exhaust. Without the bags in place, it just seems to stick out for no reason. On the other hand, if you stuck some shorties and/or fishtail end caps on there...
All in all, though, it looks great- have fun out there showing her off!

I think you've done the best job I've ever seen on that kind of project! You've really done great work!
But honestly, those side panels ruin it for me, they're just too large, and unblended. You obviously have more talent than I do, is there any way to shape them so they contribute or lead into the upward and rearward arc of the fender? I think I'd also color match them instead of black.

I think it has a nice look. I didn't even notice the side covers till Gozzie pointed it out. I can see the exhaust brackets, so that shouldn't be an issue. And I agree that some decorative button head allens would clean it up.
I like the look of a naked fat fendered bike. Has a nice vintage look to it. Refine it to your tastes, and ride it with pride!
