Default Are Harleys being sold with huge discounts right now?

Wondering if Harley is offering he discounts right now? I got a letter in from the dealership saying that they will give me 117% of the NADA value of my bike for a trade. Ive also heard rumors of some dealerships coming down $4,000 off new bikes? If this is all true I'm guessing there getting ready for the end of the summer when all the new bikes will have the new M8 engines. I'm guessing there cleaning house? 117% of the NADA value of my Fatboy would be around $15,500. Not really looking to get rid of my Fatboy though. I'm just intrigued at the moment.

The discounts have been for new leftover 2016 bikes. As for the value of trade ins? That seems more like a numbers game than anything else. A dealer will always juggle the numbers to their own benefit and to get the highest profit possible. They are not on your side. Period.

Not much in the way of discount on my 2017 M8, $1000 bucks is all, but then it came right back in the way of freight and set up bullshit... However, what they did do is give me a hell of a trade. KBB was $8700, they went NADA full list, including all options and accessories I installed and then deducted a % and gave me $12,500 trade... Which was about $700 less than I paid new three years ago. Made me very happy and sealed the deal.

I don't go to the shop to shop for a new bike...my still is new. But if they wanted to buy it, I'd sell it to them.

"Promos and discounts don't mean ****"

That is what a sales manager said to me at my HD dealership - and he is 100% right. It is just a numbers game and advertisement to get you to the store.

Don't get me wrong you can certainly get a good "deal", but what defines good is different for everyone : |

Harley is not the same as your dealer so any massive payout for a used bike is made at the individual dealer's level. It's that dealer running his business as he sees fit.

We've all heard the "I'll give 4k for any car you can drag in here" bit on the radio. People just assume that it's then rolled into the price of a new one. Perhaps some of them are but that's why they do it.

Taxes is why they do it. They simply claim X dollars spent for inventory and it's written off. They have the BOS to back it up too on the transaction. IRS is only going to ask what they spent, not if what they spent made sense. It's a tax dodge by the dealer.

As to discounts off new bikes - not happening here. You can't even find new ones on the floor.

Last year a salesman my local dealer told me that they'd do "Retail For Retail" if I traded-in my '04 Road King for a new one.

The difference between dealer trade in value, and retail value on a used late model bike or car exceeds the dealervma bin on a new vehicle. So, yeah...they'd love for you to trade a late model used in for a new one.
