Default Running out of fuel

Another thread here got me to thinking about how hard it is to restart these fuel injected engines after they have been run dry of gas. I've had other fuel injected engines that needed to have the pump primed in order to get them to run. Anyone have experience with this?

Only in a diesel with mechanical injection pump. In a gas engine with an electronic fuel pump you just cycle the key on and off several times.

While I had my cam chest apart this winter; I drained the tank, had a dent removed, and replaced fuel lines, etc... Once back together I cranked it for about 8 seconds and she fired right up.

It costs just as much to run the bike on the top half of the tank as it does the bottom half!
Keep an eye on the odometer.

There are times when the fuel tank needs to be drained and removed (either for a maintenance issue or mods). In this case, same as stated above, just cycle the pump a few times using the ignition and it may take a little longer to fire up but it's nothing major.

I ran out last Sunday the first time in 28 years of riding. I knew I was getting low looking at the tripmeter but my gauge said 1/4 left. I decided to get fuel when the light came on and it never did. I was 25 miles from home and went limp on a major 4 lane undivided highways upgrade with no shoulder. As luck had it, a customer of mine went by almost immediately and got me a gallon from the gas station 1000 yards away. What sucks is my reda can was at home full of fuel and not in my saddle bag where it belongs. Bike fired up first crank after fill up but the low fuel light stayed on for about 20 miles teasing me.
