Well, they may be loud, but car stereos are too, so that makes it ok.

My personal experience is that people are aware when I'm around (and my pipes have prevented people from changing lanes into me on more than one occasion), and anything that makes me more noticeable to cagers is a GOOD thing! I'm not obnoxious. I take it easy when I ride through residential neighbourhoods, and I don't sit at lights revving my engine.
Cheers!

I casted my vote. When I'm lane splitting in LA traffic people allow me to get through. If someone goes out their way to get by them I always thank them. I'm not one to twisting the throttle at a stop light. Although today driving home from work, there's this guy blasting Culture Club at the stop light. I think then I'll twist the throttle.

Mine are just loud enough to let people know I'm there without being obnoxious. I also don'tsee any point in blipping the throttle a million times while sitting at a stop light or in traffic.

I have stopped people from coming over in my lane, ( while talking on there cell phone) By bliping my throttle . So I say Yes!

Yes they do, and I have used them to protect a fellow rider. A friend was riding in front of me when a woman on a cell phone (is it always the case) started to pull over into her, I raced up close enough and reved my bike, made her jump on back into her lane, I think she pissed herself.
