Put the windshield on my bike and tried it today for the first time, just to try it. I hated it. It didn't keep much wind off of me at all (that's what I figured it would do) and I couldn't really get used to looking over it. Needless to say, as soon as I got back home after my 4 mile trip with it , it was pulled right back off.

 

Windshields are great IMO

 

Too bad your opinion of the windshield is like that. Appearantly you don't do much cross country or long distance riding. I'b be willing to bet you've never encountered a good thunder storm, snow or even a good dust storm while riding. If you had, I'm sure you opinion of a windshield would be much different.

 

I purchased one of the short detachable HD windshields for my 1200C last weekend. So far I am happy with it.
I noticed a huge difference when I took the bike up over 50mph. I think the detachable windshield will work great for me, I can detach it for local riding and then stick it back on for roadtrips.

 

I wouldn't ride without one. I suppose if you just profile around town you can do it without one, but ride 10 or 12 hoursWITH a windshield, then repeat the rideWITHOUT one, and see if you feel any difference between the two rides.

 

hate em too. like being in an aquarium. I like the open road feel. bugs, rocks, dust, wind.

'windshielders' need to get back in their cages where they belong.

Apparently you didn't find the size of windshield that suits your needs.

 

Well, i'm a fairly new rider, but I do one or two ~150-160 mile rides per week. And actually, bowtieman, I just got caught in a downpour last night and that's the reason I was trying to windshield on today. Hated it. I'll stick to getting soaked, and as for the dust storm..goggles for that. I guess it all goes back to the saying 'to each his own'

EDIT:: Those one or two 150-160 mile rides per week are in addition to what riding I do every other day...

 

for four mile rides you can get by without them.

But I put one on my bike just yesterday, along with aux lights, nacelle, t/s relocation and chrome forks(sliders/cowbells)

It is the low profile one and slightly(very slightly smoked).. hell you can barely tell(from a picture) that its on at least in my garage :P
I am going to take a test ride with it even tho its been raining all day today...in a few minutes
