Default geared cams

Any expeerience with this? Just went to a 2 into 1 exhaust on a 2006 Ultra Classic with a 95" motor with SE 203 cams. Bought the race tuner and had bike dyno tuned. Am going to install geared cams with as close as possible, the same size cams. Am I going to need a new dyno tune?

Why spend the extra money on the gear drive cams ?

No, you will not need a new dyno tune with the same cam, as long as it's installed correctly and not degreed differently. And I think you're better off with geared cams, as are all Twin Cam bikes.

Every bike is different, no two are alike! so any change in the breathing habbits will probably require a re-tune.

Andrews makes a kit to upgradeto roller chain/hyd. tensioners like the '06 Dyna's and '07 models, I'm thinking about this route instead of gear drive.

I don't know the advantage here, it still uses chains with tensioners that can wear out. I think if I was going in, I'd go ahead with gear drive. The older EVO cam gear drive system is bullet proof. Harley only went to chain drive on the tc88 to reduce engine noise for EPA reasons. I've heard a few friend's gear drives running and unless you listen for it specifically you can't tell the difference.

I went with gear drive cams, and there is a barely audible whine (which I actually like - reminds me of the sound a blower makes on an old muscle car, albeit MUCH quieter!). I did it for a couple of reasons: reliability (no chain or tensioners to wear out, no maintenance required, and got better cam bearings) and more power (no loss in the chain system).

Cheers!
