Default Michelin sole tire supplier to Harley-Davidson Street Rod

I know this is nothing new, but I don't like it anyway.

I like to buy American. It is a personal choice, I do believe in free trade and think tariffs are a bad idea; but when I can, especially for more expensive items, I choose to buy American.

HD is the kind of company that benefits greatly from people that think like I do, and they also encourage it. So why don't choose to do so?

Michelins are good, quality tires; I would prefer tires made in the US.

I know thinks aren't like they used to be, even the Chevy I drive has an engine made in Mexico and most of the car is from Australia; I hope (at least) that the Michelins HD uses are made here.

As far as I know none of the 10 US production facilities for Michelin in the US make motorcycle tires I believe all their bike tires come from facilities in Spain and Thailand

As far as I know Dunlops American Elite is the only replacement tire for HD that is designed, tested and made in the US. At least that is what Dunlop is claiming

Who gives a ****. Get a good tire that will save your ***. I'm not using a "American" tires just because where it's made. When your lying on the pavement cause dunlops ****ing suck, your gonna be thinking about tires.

Damn dude calm down the OP just pointed out an article concerning Michelin and HD and said he hoped they were made in the US. I pointed out that I doubted they were and that as far as I knew the American Elite were the only US based HD replacement. No one has stated they were making a tire decision based solely on the country of origin.

Personally I have run Dunlops on HDs for the better part of 20 years and never ended up on the pavement because of a tire. My son raced with duplops almost exclusively for 15 years and never hit the ground due to a tire. Of course I never ended up on the pavement due to any of the other brand of tires I have run either

I confess I did end up "on the ground" once, but it was my own stupidity, not my Dunlop tires "that ****ing suck".

I'm sorry to both you guys but wtf. Harleys haven't been 100% American since the ****ing 60s. Dunlops are hard as hell. I've slid with them on a stock 09 dyna and it sucked( mid corner too). I'm actually curious where that inverted front end comes from. Showa is honda. I forget yamaha but they are considered one of the best.

I agree, I don't understand where your anger comes from.
I do disagree with your argument that Michelins are better than American tires (in general) and Dunlops in particular. Interestingly enough, so does this article.

Of the tires they tested, 4 of the top 10 were American (another is American/German owned). Michelin was number 14.

If it's a pilot power that's rebranded for HD, which I suspect it is they'll be from France or Spain, last I knew those were the 2 plants making the high performance sport bike tires.

I don't care where my tires come from as long as they are the best suited for my riding style. I burned through a lot of pilot power and pilot power 2 CT's back in the day.
